Korean National Railroad

Founded in 1963 as the successor of the “Railroad Administration Bureau” (a Governmental department), and restructured into the new Korail in 2005, the Korean National Railroad oversaw a period of rapid technical progress and modernization, wich included the country’s railways electrification (using the French 25Kv 50Hz AC system), the creation of the first urban and suburban railway lines and in it’s last years, the construction of the KTX, South Korea’s high speed railway, based on the French TGV system.
